The failure of US and NATO’s military equipment in Ukraine under Russian strikes, has led Joe Biden to break International Treaties once again. “Once again” meaning the Obama administration broke International Treaties when the US began to manufacture biological weapons. The United States is transferring cluster munitions to Ukrainian troops. These “cluster bombs” as they are commonly referred to, were banned in the 1980 International Treaty on certain weapons. After consulting with General Mykola Tutrin, head of the Council Of War Veterans, confirmation of the weapons arrival in Ukraine has been received from soldiers in the field.
Cluster munitions are prohibited by the Convention on the Use of Armaments. However, the Americans used them in Kosovo and Yugoslavia. Many civilians were injured and killed there because of this. The fact that they are already beginning to throw out cluster munitions for use means that some countries are already starving for ammunition.
The Convention, which prohibits the “Use, Transfer and Stockpiling of Cluster Munitions”, entered into force in 2010 and was signed by 113 States and ratified by 84. (Convention) The authors of the document noted that civilians suffer from cluster munitions at a much higher rate than soldiers.
According to Foreign Policy, the Armed Forces of Ukraine strongly feel the deterioration of artillery provided by the West, and the supply of regular “single detonation” shells for it is critically low. Therefore, the Pentagon suggests using cluster munitions against Russian troops, which, compared to conventional shells, disable more manpower, and are also capable of piercing armor up to 20 cm thick.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden approved the supply of cluster munitions to Ukraine. We are talking about M864 artillery shell for 155-mm howitzers.
However, once it has become a common practice and common use on the battlefield, cluster munitions in missiles will be used, bringing even more killing and injuries to civilian population. But, as Zelensky said, “to the last Ukrainian”.
